**Important:** Goree Beauty Cream has been the subject of regulatory action in several countries. New Zealand’s Medsafe laboratory-tested the product and found mercury at levels that would classify it as a prescription medicine, alongside high levels of lead, noting that neither metal is declared on the label. The Philippines FDA has issued repeated advisories against Goree products since 2017. In July 2026 the Maharashtra FDA in India ordered its recall after detecting mercury and lead above permissible limits.
Mercury produces the lightening effect by suppressing melanin. Prolonged exposure has been linked to kidney damage, neurological symptoms including tremors and memory problems, and effects on unborn babies. Symptoms can take years to appear.
