PanOxyl is benzoyl peroxide, and benzoyl peroxide is the single most proven over-the-counter acne ingredient there is. It kills the bacteria behind inflammatory acne, and unlike antibiotics the bacteria don’t develop resistance to it — which is why dermatologists still reach for it first after decades.
Two warnings that matter. It bleaches fabric: white towels and pillowcases only. And it dries the skin hard for the first fortnight before things settle.
How to use
Massage onto damp skin, leave for one to two minutes so it can work, then rinse thoroughly. Start once daily, or every other day if your skin is dry. Always follow with a moisturiser.
Best for
Inflammatory acne — red, sore, pus-filled spots — on face, chest or back. Less useful for blackheads. Reduce frequency if skin becomes tight or flaky.
